Senior Cricket Trial

Published by under Uncategorized

Dear Parents

We have had a number of trials over the past couple of weeks to select the 1st , 2nd  and 3rd XI cricket teams.  In order to finalise the 1st and 2nd XI teams we are holding a trial match at school on Tuesday 28th February from 12.40 until 4.10pm.  The following boys will be involved in this fixture, so they will need to find alternative means of transport home after the match.  There is a ferry at 4.15pm or parents may like to organise car-pooling.

Boys trial in their Wellesley Sports/PE gear and wear school tracksuits home.

Year 4 Rippa Rugby Report

Published by under Uncategorized

Year 4 Rippa Rugby Tournament – Fraser Park 21/02/12

The threatening showers held off and the day warmed up to make for perfect conditions for playing rippa. Wellesley was in Pool 1 and the boys were to play ten minute games against four other schools. After settling into an area of a tree lined part of Fraser Park the boys did some quick drills before their first two games. A short break between these games meant that the momentum was kept up and both were won with Wellesley scoring five tries in each game. There was a long lunch break which meant that the boys could refuel and rest before their last two games.

These games also had a quick turn around and the boys rose to the challenge. A brief reminder about working the line and the boys were on for game three. A seven try win meant that we were in a good position. We knew that our last game would be our toughest as Randwick had some very fast runners but they had also won all their games. Although this was the warmest part of the day and they were the toughest opposition, the great teamwork that had developed amongst this team came to the fore again. Managing to win turnovers through 6 rips, Wellesley held on for a 3-2 win.

This team showed great teamwork and this often set up boys to make a run for the try line. They ripped well and achieved turnovers which they capitalised on to score tries. Their behaviour both on and off the field was fantastic. All took their turn to be on the sideline well and they were humble in their success. The parents who drove the boys to the tournament and supported the team there made the day run smoothly.

Prize giving was short and to the point. Archie went up to accept a rugby ball from Tongan international Inoke Afeaki and we were on our way. My thanks to the boys and parents for such a wonderful day. The win topped it off but the atmosphere was what made this special for me. Well done boys.
