Senior Winter Sport Letter

Published by under Uncategorized

04.04.12

Parents/Caregivers,

The Senior School have their winter trials on the first three Thursday afternoons of term 2.  Selecting teams is a difficult task and unfortunately some boys will miss out on teams.  We are limited by how many teams opposing schools have but always push for more teams to be included when arranging fixtures.

The boys will be briefed about what is required but you may need to check they have the correct gear (in a separate bag) before they leave for school.  Those boys trialling require mufti practice gear and the boys not trialling require their normal Wellesley PE/Sports gear for games at school.

The following are more detailed gear lists:

  • Rugby boys require: rugby jersey (preferably not blue), underpants – 2 pairs (not boxers), shorts, long socks, boots, mouth-guard and a towel (for a shower).
  • Football boys require: boots / sports shoes, underpants – 2 pairs (not boxers), shin pads, long sports socks, shorts, t-shirt and a towel (for a shower).
  • Hockey boys require: sports shoes, underpants (not boxers), mouth-guard, shorts, t-shirt, shin pads and a hockey stick (optional because there are school sticks available)
  • Boys not trialling/Multisport boys require: Wellesley PE/Sports gear, ankle socks and sports shoes.

The football and rugby boys need to be prepared for showers by having a towel with them.  The boys are permitted to shower in their shorts which make it easier for those who are apprehensive.  If the grounds are dry then they will not be required to shower but they require their towels just in case.

The Tuesday afterschool practices will start in Week 4 for the boys involved in the two football, two rugby and first hockey teams.  Practices are normally finished by 4.15pm with boys required to get into school tracksuits.  The 2nd hockey and 3rd football will have practice at Wednesday lunch times.  Thursday is the other scheduled senior sports day where the boys will either have a game or practice.  Boys can catch normal school transport unless they are involved in an away fixture.

New members of the three first teams will be issued with the new first team socks before the first fixture.  The boys will own these socks and the cost will be charged to their school accounts.  The second hockey, third football and second rugby teams require the standard school sports socks (red, white and blue hoops) which can be purchased from the uniform shop.  Second hockey and third football play in their Wellesley PE/Sports gear.  All other match playing gear is supplied by the school and the first teams receive gear bags.  Parents/boys are required to wash their own gear and coaches will let players know when gear needs to be returned.  School owned playing gear and bags are for inter-school games only!

The boys that are not involved in the teams will join the Multisports programme.  These boys participate in a range of activities both in and outside of school.  Information about this will go home once the teams have been finalised.

General Information and fixture dates are on the ‘Sport Admin’ blog and calendar which can be found on the school Ultranet.  This is updated regularly which is aimed to keep parents informed and allow for planning ahead.

Regards,

Darren Houston

School Cross Country

Published by under Uncategorized

School Cross Country

Thursday 5th April 2012

This event is to be held on Thursday with the following start times:

  • 12.45pm         Juniors
  • 1.00pm           Year 4
  • 1.15pm           Year 5
  • 1.35pm           Year 6
  • 2.00pm           Year 7
  • 2.20pm           Year 8

I recommend you watch the start on the field and then make your way through the tennis courts to the little grass area.  Once the boys have gone past you (some boys go past that point twice) then back to the school field for the finish.  Please ensure your son has the correct PE uniform (except juniors) which includes plain black shorts and sports socks.  Some boys have been wearing a range of shorts with stripes and alike.  Grey school socks are also not to be worn.

If you or somebody else intends on taking your son home after theCrossCountry please notify your son’s teacher prior to the day.  The teachers will be spread around the course so they may not be contactable on the day.  We won’t be releasing boys early unless their teacher has been notified.  The school buses and ferry will be running as usual.

A message will be put on the postponement/cancellation line (ext 810) if the weather prevents it from taking place.  Postponement date is Tuesday 24 April.

Darren Houston.

Scots Transport Arrangements

Published by under Uncategorized

Please there have been changes to the orginal note that went home on Tuesday 27 March.

Scots Fixture Transport

27.03.12

Parents / Guardians,

Thank you for all the offers of transport for the Scots fixture on Thursday.  I have collated the return slips and put the transport details on the back.  We value the support we receive from parents with transport and realise getting time off work and managing other family commitments can be difficult!

Parents are asked to contact each other to arrange pick-up and drop-off details.  Please try and organise the details that suit the parent providing transport eg a central place rather than expecting the parent to pick-up and drop-off boys from individual houses.  The new directory will help you with addresses and phone numbers.

The boys need to arrive at the venues by 10.00am.  A van will transport any boys needing rides from Scots to Miramar Park and the Miramar Polo Ground (softball) at 10.00am.  The van will also drop any boys back to Scots who need rides home.  The matches are scheduled to start at 10.30am and finish at approximately 3.00pm.

The teams, coaches and venues are:

  • Tennis XVI – Darren Houston (Scots)
  • Softball – Jon Mackie (Scots – Note: Venue change)
  • 1st XI Cricket – Ross Hampton (Scots)
  • 2nd XI Cricket – Tim Parkes (Miramar Park, off Darlington Road)
  • Colts Cricket – Chris Parker (Miramar Park, off Darlington Road)

The coaches will outline to their respective teams what gear is required.  Wellesley hats, sunscreen, drink bottles and a packed lunch are required by all boys.  Cricket boys are to travel in their playing gear and blazers.  Softball and tennis boys travel in their playing gear and their school tracksuits.

The weather forecast looks promising but a message will be put on the school cancellation line (x810) if the fixture is cancelled.

If you have any queries please feel free to contact your son’s coach or myself.  I can be reached on my cell phone (######) on the day if there are any queries.

Regards,

Darren Houston

Year 5 and 6 Water Polo Letter

Published by under Uncategorized

Year 5 & 6 Water Polo

27.03.12

Dear Parents

A Year 6 parent has offered to run a Year 5/6 Water Polo team in the Naenae league in terms 2 and 3.  We offer Water Polo in Year 7 and 8 and this is not a requirement to playing at that level in the future.

The purpose of this letter is to see if there is enough interest in entering a team.  Obviously, swimming is a major component of this sport so competent swimmers are most suited.  The school will select the team if demand exceeds supply and this will be based on ability.

When:

Wednesday nights, games between 3.45pm – 7.30pm

16th May – 27th June and 18th July – 29th August

Where:

Naenae Pool

Everest Avenue, Naenae

Cost: $160 per team (divided by the members in the team) plus $2 door entry each week

The school has approved this request as it won’t impact on the busy school programme.  There is unlikely to be any training due to the difficulty in getting pool time outside of game nights.  The team will come under the normal school expectations and be bound by the league rules.

Please return the permission slip by Thursday this week if you want your son considered for this team.

Regards,

Darren Houston

Year 7 & 8 Basketball

26.03.12

Dear Parents

I had an approach from some Karori parents offering to run a basketball team in a Karori Rec Centre league.  There are five places available in the team and the school will run a trial to select players if demand exceeds this number.

When:

Friday nights, 3.30pm – 7.00pm (Wellesley will have games after 4.30pm)

27th April – 22nd June (9 week league)

Where:

Karori Recreation Centre

251 Karori Road, Karori,

Contact number: 476 8090

Cost: $236 per team (divided by the 8 members in the team)

The school has approved this request as it won’t impact on the busy school programme.  The team will come under the normal school expectations and be bound by the league rules.

Please return the permission slip by Wednesday this week if you want your son considered for this team.

Regards,

Darren Houston

Year 7 and 8 Zone Swimming

Published by under Uncategorized

23.03.12

Parents,

Your son has been selected to represent the school at the Hutt Region Swimming Sports to be held on Monday 2 April.  The boys were chosen from the senior school and selected based on their performances in school swimming.

The venue is the Naenae Swimming Pool in Lower Hutt.  The reporting time is 9.00am and it’s scheduled to finish at 12pm.

The boys need to be changed in their togs which can be either school or racing togs.  No board shorts to be warn please!  PE gear is to be worn over the top of their togs and their school tracksuits over the top of everything.  They will not need their school uniform on the day.

If you are able to help with transport and/or could be one of the Wellesley timekeepers please fill in the slip below and return it by Tuesday 27 March.  We won’t have enough time for the bus and ferry boys to come to school first so I will organise transport with this in mind.  We won’t require transport back to school afterwards because the van and a staff car are available.

Regards,

Darren Houston.
